The quarry at 810 Fish Rd. was first used by the M.A Gammino Company in the early 60’s to supply riprap to the construction of the Newport (Senator Pell) Bridge. In 2013 the quarry was purchased by L. B. Corp under the name Tiverton Materials.
Since acquiring the quarry Tiverton Materials has made significant improvements to the property every year. A new entrance off of Fish Road was one of the first impartments.
Some of the more recent additions have been adding a vehicle wash station and an automated sprinkler system for dust control. A perimeter chain link fence was also installed around most of the property. There is also an ongoing reclamation project in place that started with the construction of a 1000 foot berm that was planted with evergreens and hydro seeded with ryegrass and wild flowers.
Tiverton Materials is also committed to the local community. The company planted an exit island off of Route 24. Tiverton Materials maintains that area and the vast frontage on Fish Road as part of an adopt a highway. Recently, the company was honored to be recognized for its litter free activities.
